One thing you need to read up on first is the type of honey you are eating. I have a post on honey and how to tell if you have a good raw honey. I would check out THIS POST-Raw Unfiltered Honey first, so that you know you are making this recipe for sleep with a GOOD raw honey. (No one wants to be wasting their time and money right?…ya.)

Ok so start with a good honey and here is how you make the recipe and use it:

Honey and Salt for Sleep: What You Will Need

  • 5 teaspoons of organic raw honey
  • 1 teaspoon of Himalayan pink salt

Mix the two ingredients together until the salt crystals are completely dissolved, and store it in an airtight jar. Take about araw honey and Himalayan pink salt teaspoon of this mixture and place it under your tongue every night before going to sleep. Allow it to mix with your saliva and dissolve naturally.

Why Honey and Salt for Sleep Works

The mixture of honey and salt allows the body and mind to de-stress naturally, putting you in the peaceful, harmonious and restful state needed to fall asleep. The mixture also ensures you do not wake up hungry during the night.

Himalayan salt contains trace minerals (unlike refined salt), including magnesium that aids relaxation and sodium that regulates blood flow and adrenalin. I believe it helps calm the stress responses that keep you awake and alert. The right salt and a healthy balance of it stabilizes the metabolism.

Many believe it also helps calm the release of adrenaline and cortisol, both of which are stress hormones. This enables the body to slip into a restorative stage rather than a stressful state during sleep.

Tips for Using Honey and Salt for Sleep

Give it at least a week. Your body might need a few nights to settle into a new routine. I like to pair it with turning off screens an hour before bed, dimming the lights, and doing a few deep breaths once I lie down. If you wake up in the night, you can take a little more and let it dissolve slowly while you breathe.

A few things to keep in mind: never give honey to babies under 1 year old, because of the risk of infant botulism. If you are diabetic or watching your salt for blood pressure, check with your doctor first, since this is a small amount of both sugar and salt every night.
