A liver cleanse is one of the first things I recommend, because most clients I work with ALL need support for their liver.
The liver is one of the most vital organs to keep us healthy. Our liver is the filter for our entire body. It is like the vacuum filter for our body. When your vacuum filter is full your vacuum does not work.
Like your vacuum it is something that needs to be cleaned out regularly in order to function
In this video I go over the protocol of how and what to eat and not eat, as well as what to take to help that liver flush. This is good to do once a year to keep it cleaned out. I believe cleansing is one of the best ways to help avoid health problems down the road and support your body if you already have some.
In the video I go over what things you need and why. You can follow along in the video with the protocol that is easy to download or print off.
What Does the Liver Do?
Your liver is the largest organ inside your body, and it has hundreds of jobs. It filters your blood, breaks down toxins, alcohol and medications, makes bile to help you digest fats, balances blood sugar, and stores vitamins and minerals. When it is overloaded, everything else has to work harder too. You can learn more about liver health on MedlinePlus.
Signs Your Liver May Need Support
- Feeling tired and sluggish
- Bloating or trouble digesting fatty foods
- Skin breakouts or itchy skin
- Hormone imbalances
- Feeling worse after alcohol or rich foods
These can have many causes, so it is always smart to check with your doctor too.
5 Simple Ways to Support Your Liver Every Day
- Start the day with lemon water. A glass of warm water with fresh lemon is an easy way to begin.
- Eat liver-loving foods. Beets, leafy greens, broccoli, cabbage, garlic and turmeric are all great choices.
- Drink plenty of water. See my post on daily water intake.
- Cut back on alcohol, sugar and processed foods. These give your liver extra work.
- Take digestive enzymes. They help take some of the load off your digestive system. See my post on digestive enzymes.
How Often Should You Do a Liver Cleanse?
I like to do a liver cleanse about once a year to keep things running smoothly, and many people like to do it in the spring as a fresh start. Plan your cleanse for a calmer week, when you can rest more, drink plenty of water, and eat simple whole foods. Be gentle with yourself during your cleanse. Some people feel tired or get a headache the first few days as the body adjusts, so give yourself grace and extra sleep.
Liver Cleanse Safety
Please talk with your doctor before doing a liver cleanse if you are pregnant or nursing, have liver or kidney disease, have diabetes, or take any prescription medications, since some herbs and supplements can affect how medications work. Stop and see your doctor if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or pain in the upper right side of your belly.
