This protein hot cereal is one of our favorite breakfasts. When eating vegan or vegetarian, people are concerned first with their protein intake. Really, there are SO many ways to get in protein. The good thing about these proteins, is that they are easy for your body to break down and absorb. They also have a higher frequency and will not bring your vibration down. Our culture today has taught us for generations that we need a lot more protein than our bodies actually need. We do eat way too much of it.
I see this all the time when I do live blood analysis. The top thing that comes in most people I see, is a protein issue. Their blood is thick and it all sticks together. I believe this can lead to less oxygen, tiredness, fatigue and buildup in our bodies, and too much protein over time has been linked to uric acid crystals (gout) and an overworked liver. These things then end up causing more issues down the road. If we can cut down our protein intake, and make smarter choices with our protein intake, we can avoid a lot of health issues. The main reason this is a top issue I see is because we are all focusing on protein intake but not the breaking down- absorbing and utilizing of that protein. It then builds up in the blood and makes it thick, stick together and sluggish.
Here is an easy protein hot cereal for breakfast, packed with protein for you and it is easy to digest. It is made from three ancient grains and sweetened with coconut palm sugar. I make a mix and keep it in a container and bring it out in our rotations of breakfast ideas! So find yourself a container and fill it with:

Protein Hot Cereal Recipe
- 3/4 cup Amaranth
- 1/4 cup Quinoa
- 1/4 cup Hulled Millet
- 3 Tbsp Coconut Sugar
- 1/4 tsp real salt, sea salt or pink salt
I get these all at my local health food store, (minus the sugar). Try to get organic if you can. My container fills up with this recipe four times. Yours will hold a different amount depending on the size of the container you choose. Just keep adding till you fill it up. You will use 1 cup of the mix each time you use it. For a family of 5, I use 2 cups each time.
How to Cook Protein Hot Cereal

The ratio for mix to water is 1:2. If you are making 1 cup then you need 2 cups of water. If making 2 cups mix, then do 4 cups of water. Your salt and sweetener are already added to your mix, so just boil your water and then add the mix. Bring back to a boil and then reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid. Cook on low and stir often, adding more liquid if necessary until all the water is absorbed and the grains are soft. This may take up to 40 minutes, so it will take time. Leftovers can be stored for later.
Serve with milk of choice. Top with a stewed fruit and if you want it to be a little more sweet, drizzle with honey, agave or pure maple syrup. Enjoy!

Why I Love These Ancient Grains
Amaranth and quinoa are both complete proteins, which means they have all nine essential amino acids your body cannot make on its own. Millet is gentle on the tummy and naturally gluten free, so this protein hot cereal is a great option if you are avoiding gluten. Together they make a warm, filling breakfast that keeps the kids going all morning. You can learn more about these grains from the Whole Grains Council.
Pair it with my homemade almond milk and a splash of homemade vanilla extract for a breakfast that feels like a treat.
Favorite Toppings
Some of our favorite toppings are sliced bananas, fresh berries, chopped nuts, a sprinkle of cinnamon, shredded coconut or a spoonful of nut butter. In the summer, try it topped with fresh peaches. In the winter, warm apples with cinnamon are so cozy. Leftovers keep in the fridge for a few days, just add a splash of milk when you warm them back up.
