A candida cleanse can make a huge difference in how you feel, from your energy to your digestion to your skin.

What is Candida?
Candida is a yeast that naturally lives in small amounts in our mouth, gut and on our skin. When it grows out of balance, it can feed off the nutrients in our digestive tract and give off byproducts that can leave us feeling unwell. I believe a diet high in refined sugar is one of the biggest things that feeds candida overgrowth.
Because our diets are so full of sugar, I see candida overgrowth in so many of my clients, even children. Thrush in babies is caused by candida too, and it should be checked by your pediatrician. Learning how to clear it from your system will do wonders for your health. Check out just some of the symptoms
Here are just some symptoms that candida causes:
- Gas and bloating
- Brain fog-poor memory
- Fatigue
- Inability to lose weight
- Acne
- Sick all over feeling
- Headaches
- Depression
In the protocol it lists more, but if this sounds like some of the things you have this is a good place to start. Many people like to try the spit test at home, which is in the protocol. It is not a medical test, so if you want to know for sure, your doctor can test for candida. Download/print the protocol for the directions and follow along with the video.
If you are wondering more about how to eat alkaline see post What is Alkaline for chart and information.
This cleanse is the most strict on diet because you are cutting out the food that feed it, but as you kill it off each time it gets better and better.
Candida Cleanse Protocol
Why Candida Grows Out of Balance
Candida is normally kept in check by the good bacteria in your gut. When that balance gets thrown off, candida can take over. Common reasons include:
- A diet high in sugar and refined carbs
- Antibiotics, which wipe out good bacteria along with the bad
- Birth control pills and steroid medications
- High stress and poor sleep
- A weakened immune system
That is why this cleanse focuses on starving the yeast, rebuilding your good bacteria with probiotics, and supporting your whole body.
Foods to Avoid on a Candida Cleanse
- Sugar in all its forms, including honey, syrups and most fruit at first
- White flour, bread and baked goods
- Alcohol
- Processed and packaged foods
- Foods prone to mold, like aged cheeses and peanuts, for some people
Foods to Enjoy
- Non-starchy vegetables and leafy greens
- Garlic, onions and coconut oil
- Clean proteins and healthy fats
- Lemon water and herbal teas
- Fermented foods like sauerkraut and kefir (if you tolerate them) to help rebuild good bacteria
- Low-sugar fruits like berries, lemons and limes once you are a few weeks in
Candida Cleanse Tips and Safety
As candida dies off, some people feel worse for a few days, with headaches, tiredness or flu-like feelings. Drink plenty of water and rest. Oregano and other strong essential oils should be taken only as directed, never straight, and not during pregnancy or with children unless your provider says it is ok. If you have a weak immune system, diabetes, or symptoms that do not improve, please see your doctor, since candida infections can need medical treatment.
