Emotional First Aid: 3 Simple Steps to Release Emotions (Free Protocol)

Our emotions are very powerful. For better or worse, they affect our world and our physical health. That is why I put together this emotional first aid tutorial and protocol. Our emotional health is just as important as our physical health. Physical health and our emotions are tied together. When you hold on to and store negative emotions, many believe they can bring you down and eventually weaken your organs and show up as physical sickness. Science can measure the frequency of emotions, how high or low they are. What we want are the higher emotions: Love, joy, and peace.

If your hate could be turned into electricity, it would light up the whole world. – Nikola Tesla

I put this tutorial together to expound on how our Emotions are affecting our physical health. In the protocol and video I go over:

  • The Science and Resources
  • Your Body and Emotions
  • How to tune into your emotions
  • The area/organs in which your body stores emotions
  • How to release stored emotions
  • Learn how to feel emotions and let them flow through you

What Is Emotional First Aid?

Just like you would clean and bandage a cut, emotional first aid is taking care of an emotion right when it happens, before it gets stuffed down and stored in the body. It does not have to be complicated, and you do not need to be an expert. You just need to be willing to feel.

3 Simple Steps to Practice Emotional First Aid

  1. Notice it. Stop and check in. Where do you feel it in your body? Your chest, your stomach, your throat? Just noticing takes away some of its power.
  2. Name it and feel it. Say it out loud: “I feel hurt,” “I feel angry,” “I feel afraid.” Let yourself feel it fully instead of pushing it away. Emotions are meant to move through us, not get stuck in us.
  3. Release it. Take a few deep breaths and imagine breathing the emotion out. You can also use an essential oil, tapping, music or movement. Then fill that space with what you want instead, like peace, love or joy.

Practicing emotional first aid every day keeps emotions from piling up. The more you do it, the faster and easier it gets.

When to Use Emotional First Aid

Use it anytime something hits you hard: an argument with someone you love, a stressful day at work, hard news, or even a memory that pops up out of nowhere. It is also great to teach your kids. When they are upset, walk them through noticing, naming and releasing what they feel. These are tools they will use for the rest of their lives.

Philosophy: When we feel an emotion, if we do not work through it somehow in our own personal way it will store in certain organs of our body. Some of us do not even allow ourselves to feel emotions and we stuff them inside. But those emotions do not just “go away” and if they keep building up they will start to manifest into our physical world through health problems related to that organ system.
