Shea Butter and Myrrh Creamy Face Soap

This recipe makes 6- 3.5 oz bars

  • 8 oz Shea Butter
  • 3 oz Coconut Oil
  • 2 oz Castor Oil
  • 1 oz Sweet Almond oil
  • 1 oz Raw Beeswax
  • 5 oz Coconut milk
  • 1.92 oz Lye

Add ins at the end: 15 ml Myrrh essential oil, 3 Tablespoons Bentonite Clay, JoJoba Oil, Vitamin E

Directions

Pull out a kitchen scale, and a glass measuring container. Put the measuring container on the kitchen scale and tare it to 0. Then add in 5 oz of coconut milk (I use a plain unsweetened brand) remove from scale and put a paper plate on kitchen scale and tare it. With food handlers gloves on add the 1.92oz lye beads. Use a metal spoon and in a ventilated area stir in the lye to the milk SLOWLY. The lye makes the milk hot, so stir in tsp at a time and let in cool in between, you do not want to burn our milk. After its stirred in set it aside. You do not want to get any of this solution on your skin or it will burn and itch. If you do just wash with vinegar and soapy water and it will neutralize it.

COLD METHOD:

In a double broiler- or you can use a stainless steel bowl in boiling pot of water- add the beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, castor oil, almond oil and let them melt together. After melted remove bowl form hot water and stir in the milk/lye mixture. Then use beaters or an immersion stick blender to blend till it looks like think pudding. When mixing is done, add the myrrh, clay, jojoba oil and Vitamin E and stir. Then spoon into mold and let sit over night. The next day after they are hardened up you can remove them from the mold and let them sit.

Important– anything that touched your lye solution (That would be the glass measuring, spoons, blender, stainless steel bowl- need to be soaked in sink with vinegar and soapy water to neutralize the lye)

HOT METHOD:

If you want to have the bars done faster, you can use a old crock (thrift store $10) pot instead of double broiler and melt ingredients (I do the beeswax in a pot on the stove because it takes a long time to met- then add to crockpot). Then add the lye/milk and mix the same. Cook for and hour on LOW and do not stir. Then when done add the myrrh, clay, jojoba oil and Vitamin E and stir. Spoon into mold and let sit till hard.
